Hundreds Freed from Boko Haram Captivity After Months in Mountain Hideout
Source excerpt
Hundreds of Nigerians abducted by Boko Haram militants during a devastating March attack on a village in northeastern Nigeria have been freed after months in captivity, marking one of the largest releases of hostages in the region in recent years. According to Nigerian authorities, the Nigerian army rescued at least 360 captives from a remote hideout in the Mandara Mountains of Borno state near the border with Cameroon. Local community leaders, however, claim that the number of those released exceeds 400 and contend that local negotiations, rather than military action, secured their freedom.
