A Pakistani Christian man remains detained after police arrested him in August over allegations of blasphemy connected to religious remarks and a video said to have circulated on social media. Amir Masih, a Christian from Dhala Sharif, near Nowshera Virkan in Gujranwala District in Punjab, Pakistan, was arrested on Aug. 11. Police registered a first information report (FIR) at Nowshera Virkan Police Station under Sections 295-A, 295-C and 298 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case has raised concern among Christian and human-rights organizations because one of the charges, Section 295-C, carries the death penalty.
