The Disappearing Christian Middle East, Part VI: When Christianity Becomes History
Source excerpt
By ICC Fellow Lisa Navarrette Throughout this series, The Disappearing Christian Middle East, we have traveled through Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. Circumstances differ in each place, but the pattern is increasingly difficult to ignore. International Christian Concern (ICC) has warned that Christian communities in Iraq and Syria have declined dramatically over the past two decades, while Christian populations in the Palestinian territories have also fallen sharply. The Middle East is not becoming entirely devoid of Christians, but Christianity’s demographic center of gravity continues moving away from the region where the faith began.
