Nigerian Christian, Muslim Leaders Sign Peace Statement
Source excerpt
More than 50 Christian and Muslim leaders in Nigeria have signed an interfaith peace accord aimed at reducing religious tensions, rejecting hate speech, and strengthening cooperation between the country’s two largest religious communities. The agreement, signed in Abuja on Aug. 12, represents a positive step for a country that has endured years of religiously influenced violence, particularly in its northern and central regions. The accord also establishes a new body intended to promote cooperation between Christian and Muslim leaders across Nigeria. The agreement should be welcomed, particularly because religious leaders have significant influence over the communities they serve.
